Hundreds of McCormick Students Make Career Connections at Annual Tech Expo

Career fair attracts more than 60 hiring companies

Many McCormick students attend the Tech Expo to network with dozens of companies.

More than 600 industrious students attended McCormick’s annual Tech Expo career fair on January 31, making connections with recruiters to line up the perfect job, co-op, or internship opportunity.

Hosted by the McCormick Office of Career Development, the Tech Expo offers students insight into the job market and gives them the opportunity to meet key representatives from leading companies. This year, the event welcomed more than 60 representatives from top engineering companies around the country, a 27 percent increase from last year.

Students and recruiters said they made important connections at the event.

“Tech Expo is amazing,” said Erwin Acox, a recruiter from the Illinois Department of Transportation. “No question, I am putting 2014 Tech Expo in my calendar now.”

Travis Cottle (mechanical engineering ’15) said he found it helpful that “each company had numerous recruiters representing them, which gave us the opportunity to network with more companies.”

The day after Tech Expo, on February 1, the career development office hosted Co-op and Internship Interview Day, an event that gives students and recruiters the opportunity to follow up on their successful interactions from the day before. This year’s Interview Day had an all-time high for the number of students interviewed, with a 44 percent increase over last year.

All year round, the McCormick Office of Career Development helps prepare students for their career search with services such as resume reviews, company information sessions, workshops, and mock interviews.
