Linda Broadbelt Earns R. H. Wilhelm Award From AIChE

Award recognizes Broadbelt’s contributions in chemical reaction engineering

Northwestern Engineering’s Linda Broadbelt has received the R. H. Wilhelm Award in Chemical Reaction Engineering from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the world’s leading organization for chemical engineering professionals.

Linda BroadbeltOne of AIChE’s prestigious Institute Awards, the R. H. Wilhelm Award recognizes an individual’s significant contributions to the field of chemical reaction engineering.

Broadbelt, the Sarah Rebecca Roland Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, will formally accept the award on October 28 during the AIChE 2018 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Broadbelt’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of multiscale modeling, complex kinetics modeling, environmental catalysis, novel biochemical pathways, and polymerization/depolymerization kinetics. She is a member of AIChE, the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, the American Chemical Society (ASC), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

In 2017, Broadbelt received Northwestern’s Dorothy Ann and Clarence L. Ver Steeg Distinguished Research Fellowship Award, as well as the ASC’s E. V. Murphree Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. She also joined Northwestern Engineering’s senior leadership team as associate dean for research.

Broadbelt’s other honors include the AIChE Women’s Initiative Committee Mentorship Excellence Award, the Fulbright Distinguished Scholar Award, and the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award. She is currently an associate editor of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, and has served on the editorial boards of Chemical Engineering Journal and International Journal of Chemical Kinetics, among others.
