EMDC program director Shelley Finnigan to moderate CTBUH's Green(er) Capital: Investing in a Sustainable Urban Future Conf
Shelley Finnigan has been invited to moderate the CTBUH conference Green(er) Capital: Investing in a Sustainable Urban Future in Seattle, Washington, May 11 – 12, 2023.

Northwestern Engineering’s Master of Science in Executive Management for Design and Construction (EMDC), and Master of Science in Project Management (MPM) Program Director Shelley Finnigan will moderate a panel at the CTBUH 2023 Americas conference, Green(er) Capital: Investing in a Sustainable Urban Future. The conference, which runs May 11 – 12, explores the methods needed to make dramatic social and environmental impacts to improve the safety and sustainability of our cities in the face of climate change.
According to CTBUH, the conference will feature keynote speakers
Shelley Finnigan serves as Director for Northwestern Engineering’s EMDC and MPM programs. She has spent more than 17 years in the design and construction industry, where her experience includes structural design, project management, marketing, and business development. Prior to joining Northwestern, Finnigan served as Global Technical Sales Engineer and Head of Technical Sales & Marketing for ArcelorMittal, and she started her career as a structural engineer at Thornton Tomasetti. Her passion for the built environment and drive to shape the future of the industry have inspired her steadfast resolve to drive change and strengthen connection among players in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. A licensed structural engineer in Illinois, Finnigan holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Purdue University, she is Chairperson for the Editorial Committee for the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and she is a member of the AISC Committee on Specifications. Her involvement in CTBUH spans 15 years, during which she has been an active contributor to its mission for knowledge dissemination. Finnigan co-founded CTBUH Chicago, she is a member of the Advisory Board, and she serves as Regional Director for CTBUH Americas.

- David Gottfried, Chief Global Impact Officer at Blue Planet Systems, presenting “Building a Movement to Regenerate and Prosper,” on his career and the insights he’s gained from working to preserve the planet;
- Kate Simonen, founding director of the Carbon Leadership Forum and Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington, presenting “Climate Smart Building – A Call to Action,” on the potential to offset carbon emissions by storing more carbon in buildings than is emitted over their life cycle; and
- Tom Kundig, principal and founder of Olson Kundig, presenting “Designed to Last: Rational Architecture and Adaptive Reuse,” on using the inherent rationality of existing buildings to inform practical and rational design.
