Project Overview

The overall goal of this project was to plan a sustainable and equitable transit-oriented development for a site next to Ryan Field in Evanston, Illinois. Before the final project, students completed case studies exploring concepts such as effective planning of public spaces, green infrastructure, and transit systems. Student teams developed maps, renderings, and a presentation describing their plan for the site, which includes public green spaces, redesigned streets, affordable housing, paths for walking or biking, and a new transit center. The central features of Tributary Commons are Tributary Park, a large, central green space named for its divergence from the green space lining the North Shore Channel, the Library with its sloped green roof, and restored wetland on the east side of the channel.
