Peter M. Babaian

Peter M. Babaian is the Building Technology Division Head for our Chicago office at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH). His twenty-plus years of experience includes designing, investigating, and rehabilitating a variety of building enclosures and structures. Peter's projects involve exterior enclosure consulting for new construction, rehabilitating existing structures and enclosures, historic preservation, building enclosure commissioning, investigating non-performing building enclosures, and providing expert services related to construction litigation. He enjoys collaborating with clients to understand their goals and provide creative solutions.
Peter is an active member of many professional industry groups and helps educate the next generation of engineers. At The Masonry Society, he is the former Chair of the Technical Activity Committee and currently serves as the Society’s Vice President on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Peter is an at-large member of the Landmarks Illinois Board of Directors Executive Committee and a member of the Chicago Building Congress Board of Directors. Peter has served as the Structural Expert for the Northwestern University Civil Engineering Capstone design class since 2014 and frequently lectures at the University.
Peter graduated from Tufts University with a bachelor of science in civil engineering and from Northwestern University with a master of science in civil engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in 30 states and a registered structural engineer in four states.
