Message From The Chair

John Troy, Chair, Department of Biomedical EngineeringWelcome to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University. On these pages you can learn about our undergraduate and graduate degree programs and about biomedical engineering research at one of the leading institutions in the country.

Each year more than 130 graduate and more than 150 undergraduate students study important biomedical problems using all the tools of engineering, biology, and medicine.

Students gain exposure to the latest ideas and techniques while developing cross-disciplinary expertise through the teachings of elite faculty from Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, Feinberg School of Medicine, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Communication.

The breadth of our faculty members' research interests affords students a wide variety of research opportunities, and students excel by using Northwestern’s robust facilities on both the Chicago and Evanston campuses.

We welcome you to explore our website, and reach out to the Department of Biomedical Engineering with any questions about our programs.
