I-9 E-Verify Services

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the McCormick Customer Service Center will not be accepting requests for Notary Services at this time as staff are not available in the office.

The McCormick Customer Service Center offers I-9/E-Verify processing to McCormick faculty, staff and students. This service is by appointment only. Our availability is Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 12:00 pm.

Electronic I-9 and E-Verify

Form I-9 has been required of new employees since 1986 and must be completed within 3 days of employment. E-Verify is an Internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that allows employers to verify the employment eligibility of their employees, regardless of citizenship.  Based on the information provided by the employee on his or her Form I-9, E-Verify checks this information electronically against records contained in DHS and Social Security Administration (SSA) databases.

All Northwestern employees must complete section 1 of Form I-9 online by the first date of employment. They must also be able to provide acceptable documentation to a University representative with access to our I-9 Service Center to complete section 2 by the third date of employment. Training guides with step by step instructions for new employees, remote hires, and section 2 processors are available.
