Zhicheng received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechatronics from Chang’an University. During his undergraduate years, he took interdisciplinary courses and applied them into practice. He joined the Formula SAE racing team in his school and worked with his teammates to design three racing cars, after which he joined a manufacturing group to build the three cars from scratch. In his junior year, Zhicheng was involved in research to devise a calibration system for traffic cameras, and he also gained experience in product function design through his senior project "The Control System of Single-Engine Road Sweepers."

Now as a member of the MSR program at Northwestern University, Zhicheng is interested in perception of robotics and computer vision, and he hopes to delve further into robotics technology to apply interdisciplinary knowledge into the fields of self-driving cars and intelligent robotics.
