Materials innovation and solar energy research

NU-NIMS Center for Materials Innovation

NU-NIMS Center for Materials Innovation was established on the campus of Northwestern University and the NIMS (National Institute for Materials Science, Japan) Namiki site in 2012. The Center's mission is to engage in complementary and collaborative cutting–edge research among members of the two institutions.

NCLT

From 2004-2011 NSF-National Center for Learning and Teaching in Nanoscale Science and Engineering (NCLT) was a program led by Northwestern University with 10 major US partners to develop formal nanoscience and engineering concepts for grades 6-16 STEM curriculum.

GSAS

From 2006-2013 Global School for Advanced Studies (GSAS) developed global leadership capabilities in young US researchers with support from NSF, Taiwan, Qatar, and France.

National Center for Materials World Modules Outreach

National Center for Materials World Modules Outreach History was a DOD-funded (~$7 million) precollege MWM program from 2007-2011. In April 2008 instructors from Northwestern University conducted two major training sessions at the New Jersey MWM outreach program.

Community Building

Creating global communities in materials science research and applications

Global Materials Network (GMN)

GMN for young researchers was launched in 2012 in Singapore under joint support of the NSF and the Singapore Materials Research Society. Collaboration was held via cyber and in-person meetings.

MRI helps to serve the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) with 14 adhering bodies on six continents.
