Biography

Tarzia is a computer scientist, software engineer, and journalist. He publishes GunMemorial.org, a crowd-sourced publication which profiles tens of thousands of U.S. gun violence victims. He has been a Professional Fellow at the Knight Lab at the Medill School of Journalism, a Sr. Computational Research Consultant at the Kellogg School of Management, and an engineering manager, a product manager, and as a senior software engineer at various startups in Chicago. His Ph.D. thesis at Northwestern focused on mobile computing systems, with an emphasis on acoustic sensing. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Columbia University.

Research Interests

Tarzia has recently focused on CS teaching and digital journalism, but he also has experience in software engineering, software project management, software product design. His PhD thesis work focused on mobile systems, with an emphasis on acoustic sensing.
