ME 241 Fluid Mechanics (or equivalent), EA-1,2,3

Description

The course deals with the foundational aspects of Bio-MEMS, viz., their design/analysis, microfabrication and biological relevance.

  • Inertial microfluidics
  • Single cell sorting, e.g., in stem cell assays
  • Lumped modeling of microfluidic flows
  • Cell transfection from bulk to nanoscale
  • Transient, lumped modeling of nanoscale electroporation
  • Microfabrication and Nanofabrication
  • Surface engineering, e.g., surface functionalization, protein patterning
  • Integration of Bio-MEMS with label-free detection and molecular profiling, biosensors, plasmonic sensors
  • BioMEMS for disease modeling and drug screening

Textbook:   

Introduction to BioMEMS by Albert Folch, CRC Press, 2012 (recommended). Class materials will be provided as needed
