Phil Messersmith and his team discovered that the remarkable adhesive abilities of geckos and mussels can be combined to create a superior adhesive. Combining the important elements of gecko and mussel adhesion, the new adhesive material functions like a sticky note and exhibits strong yet reversible adhesion in both air and water.
