MSIT graduate Erik Neitzel ('05) Featured in Chicago Tribune Business Section

"As wireless technology evolved, so did Neitzel's career. He started with PrimeCo as an assistant systems performance engineer, working with radio frequency design engineers and enhancing Chicago's wireless coverage. Today, Neitzel leads teams of engineers in rolling out the newest technology, 4G LTE (long-term evolution), which has been in the works since 2006.

"In my world, I have one foot in the current technology and one in the future," Neitzel said. "Our networks today are at least a hundred times faster than they were 10 years ago, and that progress is going to continue as far as I can see into the horizon."

Neitzel rattles off combinations of letters for technological advances, crediting his military training for his mastery of the industry's "acronym soup."

To hear him explain 4G LTE makes it almost sound simple. Almost."
