SUMMARY:Data Science Nights - January 2025 with Jack Sumner, Interdisciplinary Biological Sciences
LOCATION:Lower Level, Chambers Hall
DESCRIPTION:JANUARY MEETING: Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 5:20pm (US Central)\nLOCATION: \nIn person: Chambers Hall, Lower Level\n600 Foster Steet, Evanston Campus\n\nAGENDA:\n5:30pm - Meet and Greet\n6:00pm - Talk by Jack Sumner, PhD Candidate, Interdisciplinary Biological Sciences, Northwestern University\n"Transitions In Lung Microbiota Landscape Associate With Distinct Patterns Of Pneumonia Progression"\n6:45pm - Q&A\n\nABSTRACT:\nTransitions In Lung Microbiota Landscape Associate With Distinct Patterns Of Pneumonia Progression\nPneumonia is among the leading infectious contributors to global mortality, yet the precise microbial determinants driving clinical outcomes in severe pneumonia are unknown. Here, we leverage our unique clinical setting, which includes systematic and serial bronchoscopic sampling, to distill microbial signatures of clinical outcome using multiomics. Our results highlight the dynamic nature of the lung microbiome which progresses through community assemblages that parallel patient prognosis.\nDATA SCIENCE NIGHTS are monthly talks on data science techniques or applications, organized by Northwestern University graduate students and scholars. Aspiring, beginning, and advanced data scientists are welcome! For more information: http://bit.ly/nico-dsn\n\nPiP URL: https://planitpurple.northwestern.edu/event/626024
