Title:
A Seven Year Career Path Through Altera, Intel, and Google's Bleeding Edge Software/Hardware Systems
Abstract
Careers are unpredictable. Your first job can be the most impactful choice in your career in ways you can't foresee. Shiva hopes to share his career journey to help up and coming engineers navigate the start of theirs. He's also happy to answer questions about working at Google, HW/SW trends, being a manager or living in the Bay Area.
Biography
Shiva is an engineering manager at Google Platforms, which is responsible for new systems (i.e. accelerators, storage, networking, etc.) developed and deployed at Google. Shiva's Compute Modeling team is a mix of systems and embedded software engineers focused on using simulation/modeling to rapidly develop SW for cutting edge chips (e.g. TPU) and systems (e.g. smart NICs, accelerator trays, disaggregated storage). Shiva received his BS/MS in CE/CS from Northwestern in 2013. He joined Altera and was a founding member of the Altera Virtualization Lab, focused on FPGA acceleration in datacenters. After Altera was acquired by Intel, Shiva ran a 15 person team developing an FPGA acceleration stack before switching to Google.
