Program Educational Objectives

The broad objectives we expect graduates to obtain from the electrical engineering and computer engineering programs are listed below:

Career Preparation

Graduates will apply their electrical/computer engineering skills to a variety of challenges in industry, academia, or in the pursuit of other fields.

Professionalism and Leadership

Graduates will attain careers in which they become leaders in their chosen fields, work in multidisciplinary teams, make decisions that are socially responsible, and communicate effectively.

Intellectual Curiosity

Graduates will continuously learn new concepts, identify new directions, and adapt in response to the needs of a rapidly changing world.

Student Outcomes

To prepare graduates to achieve these objectives, we intend for students of the electrical/computer engineering program to graduate with the following knowledge and skills:

  1. Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. Ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. Ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. Ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. Ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze, and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
