EECS Ph.D Student Zhongyang Li Awarded 2016 SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship

His research focuses on engineering visible-frequency spectrum and arbitrarily steering light by metallic architectures at nanoscale

Zhongyang (Jason) Li

EECS Ph.D Student Zhongyang (Jason) Li has been awarded a 2016 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship in the amount of $2500, by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field.

Zhongyang is currently a fifth-year PhD candidate advised by Prof. Koray Aydin in Metamaterials and Nanophotonic Devices Laboratory (MNDL). His research interest is to design, fabricate and characterize nano-electronic and nanophotonic devices with novel optical functionalities. Particularly, his recent work is focusing on engineering spectrum and arbitrarily steering light by metallic architectures at nanoscale.

SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics, an educational not‐for‐profit organization founded in 1955 to advance light‐based science, engineering, and technology. The Society serves nearly 264,000 constituents from approximately 166 countries, offering conferences and their published proceedings, continuing education, books, journals, and the SPIE Digital Library.
