Seda Ogrenci-Memik & Gokhan Memik Named Members of Program Committee for 2016 Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association Conference

The event was held at the University of Chicago on April 2-3, 2016.

Prof. Seda Ogrenci-Memik and Prof. Gokhan Memik were elected to the Conference Committee as members of the Program Committee for the 2016 Turkish American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA) Conference, which was held at the University of Chicago on April 2-3, 2016.

Other program committee members were Ercan Alp (co-chair) from Argonne Labs, Faruk Gulen from Loyola University, and Burhaneddin Sandikci (co-chair) from University of Chicago. The program included talks by Aziz Sancar, 2015 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry; Eric Isaacs, Provost of University of Chicago; Sunil Kumar, Dean of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business; and Peter Littlewood, Director of Argonne National Laboratory.

This year’s conference theme will be centered on “Science and Society”. Scientific progress has been the driving force that provides sound and sustainable solutions to emerging technical and social challenges and it creates new opportunities that are likely to transform our world in the coming decades. The conference was also addressed and attended by the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey, Hon. Fikri Işık as well as presidents of over a dozen leading Turkish Universities.
