Ogrenci-Memik & WIC Members Introduce Scratch Programming to High School Students

The outreach consists of high school girls in their STEM-W club teaching mostly 3rd – 8th grade students how to code.

Prof. Seda Ogrenci-Memik and two student members of Women in Computing (CS majors Haley de Boom and Melissa Perez) participated in an outreach event at Highland Park High School, teaching elementary school students the Scratch programming environment

Highland Park High School has started an outreach CS club on Saturdays from 2/13 to 3/19. The outreach consists of high school girls in their STEM-W club teaching mostly 3rd – 8th grade students how to code using Scratch. Many of the students do not have any prior coding experience. The first activity was introducing them to the concept of instructions and algorithm development.
