Goce Trajcevski Selected for 2017 Graduate School Service Award

These awards represent the hard work and tireless commitment of individuals who have consistently provided academic and administrative support of graduate students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows.

Dr. Goce Trajcevski has been bestowed the honor of being announced as the singularly recognized Faculty recipient of the 2017 Graduate School (TGS) Service Award.

Established in 2012, The Graduate School celebrates key individuals who have worked to improve diversity, service, and engagement in the graduate community. These awards represent the hard work and tireless commitment of individuals who have consistently provided academic and administrative support of graduate students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows. This year, we received over 100 total nominations for these awards, which is a wonderful reminder that our community is made up of an outstanding group of individuals. After careful consideration, the nominee group was narrowed down to 12 winners.

Dr. Trajcevski received his BS degree in Informatics and Automation from the University of Sts. Kiril i Metodij in Skopje, and his MS and PhD from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Northwestern University in 2004 as a PostDoc, advised by Prof. Peter Scheuermann, where he is currently an Assistant Chair and Senior Lecturer. Some of his recent accolades, include coaching NU's various Mid-Central Regional ACM ICPC championship winning student teams (most recently in 2016), becoming an ACM Senior Member in 2015, winning the EECS Best Teacher Award in 2014, and earning the Favorite Teacher Award in the MSiA program in 2014.

Dr. Trajcevski's broad research interests are in the areas of Mobile Data Management and Moving Objects Databases (MOD); Data Management in Sensor Networks; and Reactive Behavior in Dynamic and Distributed Environments. His research has been funded by several NSF grants, ONR grant and industry-sponsorships (Northrop-Grumman and HERE), and has resulted in two Best Paper Awards (CoopIS 2000 and IEEE MDM 2010) and one Best Short Paper Award (ACM MSWiM 2013). In addition to his service in numerous Program Committees, Dr. Trajcevski has participated in Organizing Committees of many conferences (General co-Chair of ICDE 2014, Program co-Chair of ACM SIGSPATAL GIS 2016, Workshops co-Chair and Advanced Seminars co-Chair in IEEE MDM, ACM SIGSPATIAL GIS, DASFAA; etc.). Presently he is Associate Editor for ACM TSAS and GeoInformatica journals.

On Tuesday, March 28, The Graduate School will be hosting the 2017 Awards & Recognition Ceremony at 5:30 PM at Evanston’s Hilton Orrington to formally celebrate the recipients.
