Sarah Lim Named Recipient of 2016 Google Lime Scholarship & Quip Engineering Diversity Scholarship Runner-up
Scholarships were awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated passion for computer science.
Weinberg CS Undergraduate Student Sarah Lim has been awarded a 2016 Google Lime Scholarship and recently named a runner-up for the Quip Engineering Diversity Scholarship.
As a recipient of the 2016 Google Lime Scholarship, Lim will receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year and also attend the annual Google Scholars' Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. Scholarships were awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated passion for computer science.
As a runner-up for the Quip Engineering Diversity Scholarship, Lim will receive $1000 and will be flown out to Quip's office in San Francisco this summer for a day of learning and mentorship. She was recognized for her work in promoting diversity, the obstacles Lim has overcome while achieving her goals, and for her potential to contribute and make technology a better place.
Quip created this scholarship to help encourage undergraduate students getting started in tech who come from groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM (including but not limited to: Black, Latino/a, American Indian, female, first-generation college students, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities).
Lim is a Junior studying computer science, with a focus on education technology and user-centered design. She is advised by Prof. Haoqi Zhang as part of the Design, Technology, and Research group under the Delta Lab.
Her research interests intersect computing education research (CER), human-computer interaction (HCI), social computing, accessibility, and the learning sciences, while being specifically interested in applying crowdsourcing techniques to support learning at scale. Lim's current work seeks to help intermediate programming students extract and interpret professional web source code. She is incredibly passionate about teaching, and finding ways to make CS more accessible to learners.
