Dean Joseph Schofer and Andrew Galloway on the Infrastructure Show

Dean Joseph SchoferThe major passenger rail bottleneck in the Northeast Corridor is the rail connection between New Jersey and Manhattan.  The Gateway Program is addressing multiple infrastructure capacity issues in this area.  At the core of this collaboration between Amtrak, the states of New York and New Jersey, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the U.S. Department of Transportation is construction of new twin rail tunnels under the Hudson River. These will supplement the existing 108 year old rail tunnels, which were damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and which do not have the capacity to meet growing demand. In this discussion with Andrew Galloway, Chief of Corridor Development for Amtrak, we learn about the overall Program and plans for these new rail tunnels.
