Michael Jewett receives Pathway to Independence Award in Synthetic Biology Research

October 2009

Michael Jewett is one of about 15 recipients of a Pathway to Independence Award from the NIH/National Institute of General Medicinal Sciences. The title of his grant is "Towards construction of a synthetic self-replicating entity." This research will increase our molecular-level understanding of protein synthesis and push the frontiers of biology by design.  NIH has created the awards as a way to help investigators launch their own research programs and obtain traditional R01 grants earlier in their careers.  The award provides his research program approximately $750,000 over the next 3 years.
