Tom Liu is a Research Fellow at the Northwestern Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute. He obtained his MD degree at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine prior to starting his general surgery training. Tom completed his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and gained an immense appreciation for computational and data driven approaches to studying cardiovascular disease during his time working at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF before medical school.

Tom plans to pursue additional fellowship training to become a cardiac surgeon. He sees understanding and implementing AI solutions in healthcare as an important key in shaping the way medicine is practiced. Ensuring that AI systems and applications include data and solutions applicable to surgical diseases and treatment will greatly benefit patients and help optimize the delivery of care. Ultimately, he hopes to use his training background to transform the way we think about and perform surgery in the future.
