Admissions
Once Accepted

Please return the Confirmation of Intention to Register form by the deadline listed in your acceptance letter. Once received, you will be sent instructions on how to pay the non-refundable $500 tuition deposit. Your place in the incoming class is not secure until both items have been received. Students risk losing their space in the upcoming class if they do not confirm their intent to register in a timely manner. If you are unable to return your Confirmation of Intention to Register form and/or deposit promptly, contact the program office at 847-467-7527 or msai@northwestern.edu.

Preliminary Program Exam:

  • Once admitted, incoming students of the MSAI program will be administered a programming exam in person approximately one week before classes begin. The purpose of this exam is to assess student coding ability as we want our incoming students to have the skills necessary to start in an aggressive computational environment. The exam may be completed using any language of proficiency (Python, Java, C, etc.) and will be written (closed-computer, closed-book). Those scoring below threshold will be required to enroll in a Northwestern faculty-led intensive programming class in parallel with fall quarter course requirements. Please note code examples such as Github included as part of the application will not be considered in place of the preliminary programming exam.
