Weiyan Zhou graduated cum laude in December 2021 from the University of California, Los Angeles with a major in Financial Actuarial Mathematics and a minor in Statistics. During her time at UCLA, she was trained in various quantitative courses and projects, gaining a solid foundation in mathematics and statistics. Weiyan also acquired coding skills in programming languages such as R, C++, and Python through a combination of coursework and internships.
During her time as a Fintech Data Scientist Intern at VisionX, Weiyan collaborated with her colleagues in developing a rough program using AI technology to predict stock market movements. Discovering the power of data in the real world further encouraged her curiosity. Initially, Weiyan learned Python and helped the team with testing the program’s accuracy. As she developed her skills, Weiyan was charged with research, initial screening, and reporting data sourcing about global historical stock information input data. In this process, she not only improved her technological understanding and communication abilities but also established a strong foundation for her future directions in tech.
Weiyan’s goal is to help people with their health since her grandfather passed away due to myocardial infarction and believes that she can achieve this objective as a data scientist. Weiyan is really excited about her new journey as an MSiA* candidate and is looking forward to developing a greater breadth of professional knowledge that will enhance her technical, leadership, and communication abilities to cater to the demands of the market. Moreover, I look forward to meeting and working with others in the program and building lifelong relationships.
