Bannasorn (Boss) Paspanthong graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University in three years. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with an Economics minor. Boss first developed his interest in data science when taking a statistics class. He was fascinated by how we can utilize data to answer various questions and generate impacts. Since then, he has been equipping himself with intense coursework in machine learning, statistics, stochastic models & simulation, programming, and various domain knowledge (such as finance and operation management). Boss obtains various experiences in data science through his internship in Thailand. At Kasikorn Business-Technology Group (KBTG), Boss developed a time-series analysis framework via Python library to increase the efficiency of data scientists at KBTG. At Shopee, Boss developed a machine learning model to predict which existing customers will convert to using ShopeeFood service. He gathered data from Shopee’s database using SQL and created an XGBoost model to make predictions. Furthermore, Boss also developed a new ShopeeFood customer segmentation logic to include more life stages of the customers and whale customers (high-spending customers). Lastly, he constantly performed A/B testing on promotions and make recommendations on which coupons were to be implemented in the highly competitive food delivery industry. During the last quarter at Northwestern University (undergraduate degree), Boss worked with UPS in IEMS Client Project Challenge. He utilized Google Maps API to perform feature engineering and assisted his team in formulating an optimization model to help UPS restructure its feeder system hubs & customer assignments. This project is estimated to reduce costs for UPS, driving hours for UPS drivers, and CO2 emissions. Despite the numerous exposure Boss has gained through his undergraduate study and professional experiences, he still wants to expand his knowledge in the domain of data science. At MSiA*, Boss is looking forward to strengthening his data science core knowledge and expanding further into advanced territories of data science. He is looking forward to making real-world impacts through data.
