Licheng graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in both Statistics and Psychology. At Michigan, he found analytics was the field where his interests in mathematical modeling and human behavior intersect. His undergraduate studies together with his experiences in datathons and research labs allowed him to learn state-of-the-art data science methodologies and to gain insights into today’s data-driven world. Besides academic accumulation, Licheng strengthened his practical ability and employment competitiveness through internship and research experience. As a data analyst Intern at Shuliang Tech Ltd., Licheng co-developed NLP models in Python to index daily negative public sentiment on social media. Through this process, Licheng cultivated his ability to work on large datasets and skills to operationalize concepts into measurable variables. Licheng also believed data science is a vigorous field that requires the constant studying of new ideas and techniques. He often proactively seeks opportunities to strengthen his research ability. In the summer of 2022, Licheng was employed at the Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan to work on survey methodological issues on an ongoing neurodevelopmental program. Licheng’s research on the latest survey weighting methods and their applications made him a co-author of papers from this program. As an MSiA* candidate, Licheng wishes to further explore the unlimited potential of analytics through systematic training and practices. He believes at MSiA he can improve his product sense and sharpen his data analysis skills.

*later renamed MS in Machine Learning and Data Science
