Dian graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Economics. His coursework in econometrics and data science provided rigorous training in statistical methods and analytic skills. He also actively learned online about new state-of-the-art tools and concepts in the data science field.

Dian is passionate about applying data analysis and machine learning models to make real-world impacts. In the summer of 2019, Dian joined Alibaba Group as a data science intern, where he optimized a forecasting model that empowers 4 million merchants to make better sales strategies. From September 2020 to June 2021, Dian worked with data scientists at McKinsey to define and model corporate financial distress as part of his Industry Practicum project. During the last summer at eBay, Dian identified a feature improvement that not only improves the user experience but also has the potential to add $1.28 million to yearly GMV.

Dian is thrilled to join Northwestern’s MSiA program, where he hopes to hone his analytic skills further and meet people who share his interest in data science. He is looking forward to becoming a data scientist who can help his company solve complex problems and deliver better products through data science.
