Qiana comes into the program with a unique background in business and the liberal arts. A member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, she holds a B.A. degree in music and math from Williams College. After graduation, she spent one year working as a search marketing specialist, first at an e-commerce startup in Boston, MA and then at a digital marketing agency in Raleigh, NC. With her writing and quantitative skills, she helped clients in the medical and gifting industries achieve 22% ~ 112% YoY growth in organic traffic.

Both in college and at work, Qiana has enjoyed taking an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving. She believes that the intersection of data and humanities will create new knowledge frameworks for understanding cultural and political structures. While working as a marketer, she came to appreciate the versatility of data science and its application in a wide variety of contexts, from traffic forecasting to content marketing. Her current research interest involves exploring language, logic, and social systems with rigorous, analytical methods. She is excited to join the MSiA program to expand her technical skillset and collaborate with brilliant peers.

Outside of her academic and industrial interests, Qiana is an avid reader, writer, and pianist. Her favorite book and TV genres are fantasy and satire. While open to all opportunities in data science, she is particularly interested in machine learning, natural language processing, and using data-driven methods to investigate social and political problems.
