Brian earned his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 2018 with majors in mathematics, actuarial science, and applied statistics and minors in management and economics. He enjoyed developing both the breadth and depth of his problem-solving skills, and during his time participated in an independent study exploring dynamical systems and their applications to mathematical biology and epidemiology. He remained involved in extracurricular activities through roles on his fraternity’s executive board and held multiple positions at the university rec center to improve the wellness of his fellow community members. Through these extra-curricular connections, he was able to participate in a cross-country cycling trip to benefit people with disabilities, stopping in new cities daily to connect with resource centers, provide grants, and spread a message of acceptance and understanding.

Following graduation, Brian joined Mercer as an actuarial analyst in the retirement consulting industry. He worked with client teams and consultants to analyze participant and asset data, project liability across economic scenarios, and prepare contribution and plan design recommendations for clients. He particularly enjoyed streamlining the valuation process, and outside of client work collaborated with a small team of developers to create and maintain tools for data analysis and automation. This time in defined benefit consulting also served as great experience for developing his project management and communication skills.

Brian is eager to return to school and further develop his analytical skills alongside his MSiA classmates, faculty members, and industry partners. He is excited to see how these skills and technologies continue to shape areas such as agriculture and healthcare, where they can improve health and wellness for people around the world.
