Ben Hakimi graduated from California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo in June 2020 with a Bachelor’s in Business-Finance and a minor in Statistics. In his four years at Cal Poly, Ben worked for a local landscaping company, played varsity football, and was a Business Outreach Intern for the San Luis Obispo tech start-up, Kick-it Points.

While interning with Kick-it Points, a mobile app that partners with local business to encourage users to get outside and be active, Ben recruited new businesses to partner with the app, as well as obtained feedback from current partners on how the app was working for them. This experience helped Ben see the importance of data analysis and programming in creating and growing a business. It also pushed Ben to add a Statistics minor to his Finance degree where he learned programing in R and MATLAB. Ben was immediately drawn to the problem-solving aspects of programing, and by graduation, he had worked on numerous data analysis projects in a wide range of fields. These projects included programs that maximized Net Present Values of cooperate investments, created gambling strategies, and optimized starting lineups for baseball teams.

At Northwestern, Ben looks forward to expanding his programming skillset and learning from the experiences of his classmates. After completing the program, Ben hopes to begin a career in Data Science where he can exercise his love of problem solving on a daily basis while working in a team-based environment.
