Kate graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia in 2014 with a B.A. in Computer Science and a minor in Math. Throughout her coursework, she was intrigued by how she could use logic and creativity to see patterns and trends in the midst of information that began as chaos. Throughout college, she focused her studies on computing, probability, and statistics, while supplementing with commerce courses. Over the summer months, Kate applied her coursework with summer internships in an application development team at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and in the IT Leadership Program at General Electric.

Eager to further apply her technical skills to challenging business problems, Kate began working for Deloitte Consulting as a Business Technology Analyst in Washington, D.C. upon graduation. Primarily working as an ETL developer within a Data Management team, Kate captured and transformed source data to provide the client with operational insight. Her ability to effectively communicate findings across functional and technical teams was key in elevating risks, challenging assumptions, and forecasting development for future releases. Kate’s experience in exploring data to investigate issues and identify solutions further grew her passion for the power of data and analytics.

Kate is excited to expand her understanding of analytics and data science, more broadly and deeply, through the MSiA program. She looks forward to learning data science tools and the underlying algorithms and statistics implemented within the context of real industry projects. Kate is eager to integrate her logical problem solving abilities, natural curiosity, and collaborative skills to solve data science challenges alongside her classmates and colleagues. Kate’s passion for learning from data sets to make societal impacts motivates Kate in her study and application of data science to solve the challenges of tomorrow.
