The Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences Office of Studies has Unveristy-wide responsibility for the awarding of credit based on performance on AP, IB, or other exams (such as A-levels). To receive credit, students should send official score reports to Northwestern University. Any follow up or questions about receiving credit should go through that office.

WCAS has a matrix that will show what credit (if any) is granted for a particular score on a particular exam. This matrix may be altered on a yearly basis. A complete listing of credit granted through AP and IB exams can be found on the WCAS AP Credit page. It is broken down by the year you enter Northwestern, so make sure you are looking at the correct information. Credit should not be assumed until official communication from WCAS has been received.
The next question after determining how many and which units of credit you have been awarded, is how they can be applied to McCormick degree requirements. See the section below for further specifics.
McCormick Recognition for Advanced Placement / International Baccalaureate Testing
Guide to the Listing:
Exam Name — use of credit
Where "use of credit" — denotes where in the undergraduate curriculum the credit might be applied. This means the course could be eligible to fulfill one of the requirements in that area, but it will ultimately depend on other factors. For example, the Theme requirement consists of 7 courses - but there are further stipulations, so 7 units of AP credit that could be applied to the theme may not necessarily complete that requirement. Any specific questions about how your AP credits could be used toward your McCormick degree should be directed to the Academic Services Office, Tech L269 or e-mail ueoffice@northwestern.edu.
