Paul Millman: Enhancing Surgical Performance through Technology and Design

    Master of Science in Robotics

4:00 PM ITW Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center

    EVENT DETAILS

This talk will tell the story of the development of Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci Xi, from conception to launch, with a focus on the fundamental engineering challenges that were overcome, and the methodologies of human-centered design that were applied. The da Vinci Surgical System applies tele-robotic technology to enhance human performance—giving surgeons better vision, precision, and control. To date, surgeons have used the da Vinci Surgical System to perform minimally invasive surgery on more than three million patients worldwide. In April 2014, 15 years after the first da Vinci system hit the market, the company launched a new platform, the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, to meet the unique needs of General and Colorectal surgeons. The da Vinci Xi represents a major advance in clinical capabilities, as well as ease and efficiency of use.
