Service Trips

Alternative Student Breaks

This student-run service-learning organization sends Northwestern students on week long trips during winter and spring breaks and before Wildcat Welcome Week to locations throughout the country to do volunteer work at various service-learning organizations. ASB not only seeks to involve, educate, and heighten students' social awareness, but also strives to encourage lifelong social action.

Associates' Service Trip

Sheil Catholic Center's Habitat for Humanity Trip takes place in West Tallahatchie, Mississippi. In addition to home construction, participants also help out at local schools, community and community health centers. The trip takes place over spring break and is open to anyone in the Sheil community who is over 18 years of age.

New Orleans Service Trip

The Sheil Catholic Center's New Orleans trip takes place over spring break and is open to undergraduates, graduate students and professional students.

Nicaragua Service Trip

For its international trip to Nicaragua, Sheil Catholic Center collaborates with the Fabretto Children’s Foundation. Time in Nicaragua is spent working at the Fabretto center in Cusmapa on construction projects, planting trees,  and playing games with children. The trip is open to undergraduates and graduate students.

Local Development

Campus Kitchens

Through Campus Kitchens, volunteers are trained in proper food safety and sanitation, and then work in the kitchen, deliver meals, develop menus, and learn socially-responsible leadership skills.

Center for Civic Engagement

Northwestern's Center for Civic Engagement promotes a lifelong commitment to active citizenship and social responsibility among students of all ages. Through an integration of academics with meaningful volunteer service, research, and community partnerships, the Center supports students, faculty, staff, and alumni as they enhance their own academic experiences while contributing to stronger communities and a more engaged university.

Global Health Initiative

The Global Health Initiative is a partnership between private industry, non-profit donors, and academia to develop products that address health issues facing underserved communities around the world. Students have the opportunity to assume leadership positions in the following areas: case study, field research, project and academic, external marketing.

Northwestern Community Development Corps (NCDC)

NCDC is a student-run organization that seeks to engage students in community development at Northwestern, in Evanston, and throughout Chicago. NCDC promotes civic engagement through direct service, social awareness, and advocacy.

Center for Student Involvement

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) seeks to engage students in involvement opportunities that build a sense of belonging and community at Northwestern University.
