McCormick School of Engineering Launches Chinese Web Site

In an effort to communicate with the families of potential applicants in China, the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science has recently launched a Chinese version of its web site. The site offers information on McCormick's high rankings and distinguished reputation, its graduate and PhD programs, and prominent Chinese faculty and alumni (including job placement data).

"The creation of this web site enables McCormick to reach an important, and growing, sector of the graduate applicant pool," says Ajit Tamhane, senior associate dean for planning and graduate studies. "In particular, we hope it is of use to the parents and friends of prospective students."

The site – developed with the assistance of professor of mechanical engineering Jian Cao and two McCormick graduate students – focuses on providing information for parents who may not be fluent in English. Details about Northwestern’s connections with Chinese universities, its support structures for international students at Northwestern, and data about the strong Chinese community in Chicago serve to illustrate why Chinese students will feel comfortable and flourish at the school. Users of the site will be able to contact McCormick in Chinese for more information.
