Dean's Seminar Series Welcomes Harry Kraemer

Harry M. Jansen Kraemer Jr., executive partner with private equity firm Madison Dearborn and a clinical professor of management and strategy at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, will speak at the McCormick School of Engineering as part of the Dean's Seminar Series.

Kraemer will give a talk titled, "A Common Sense Approach to Leadership," on April 7 at 4 p.m. in the ITW classroom at the Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center at Northwestern University. The talk is co-sponsored by the Center for Leadership at Northwestern.

Kraemer is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Baxter International Inc. His 23-year career at the company began in 1982 and included senior positions in both domestic and international operations. In 1993, he was named senior vice president and chief financial officer, and in 1999, he was named chief executive officer. Before joining Baxter, Mr. Kraemer worked for Bank of America in corporate banking and for Northwest Industries in planning and business development.

Kraemer graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University of Wisconsin in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics. He received an MBA degree in finance and accounting from the Kellogg School of Management in 1979.

Kraemer was recently named the 2008 Kellogg School of Management Professor of the Year. He serves on the board of directors of Science Applications International Corporation, Sirona Dental Systems GmbH and VWR International, Inc. and on the board of trustees of Lawrence University, Northwestern University, The Conference Board and Northshore University Healthsystem.
