Hani Mahmassani, William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation and director of the Transportation Center at the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University, has been featured in several national news stories recently regarding crowd control at the upcoming presidential inauguration.

Mahmassani, who has studied crowd behavior and the deadly stampedes during annual Muslim pilgrimages to Mecca, has given several briefings to the Secretary of the Army, the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police, the Department of Homeland Security, and other entities in charge of security at the inauguration.

Mahmassani’s take on crowd control was featured in a CNN news story (which has aired on several CNN shows, including Wolf Blitzer’s Situation Room) and in a USA Today news article. These stories were also picked by local television stations and newspapers across the country.
