McCormick Graduate Student Recognized as Korean Scientist of the Year
January 15, 2008
Haeshin Lee, a graduate student in biomedical engineering at McCormick, was selected by the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology as a "Scientist of the Year" in 2007. Only 24 people received this honor, and Haeshin Lee was the only graduate student.
The award recognizes Lee as a co-author of the paper "A reversible wet/dry adhesive inspired by mussel and gecko adhesion,” the cover story of Nature on July 19, 2007. That paper focused on Lee’s work with Phillip Messermith, professor of biomedical engineering, in creating a new adhesive that works when wet.
Wooshic Kim, Deputy Premier and Chancellor of the Ministry of Science and Technology, invited the scientists for dinner on Dec. 18 in honor of their outstanding achievement.
