McCormick Dean Julio M. Ottino and members of the McCormick community traveled last week to Taiwan, a nation known for its strong engineering and high-tech sectors. The visit was part of McCormick’s ongoing effort to engage with its global base of alumni and friends.

“We are very excited to strengthen our ties to Taiwan’s impressive and active Northwestern alumni network,” said Dean Julio M. Ottino. “Global connections like these benefit the entire University, from faculty in pursuit of excellent research opportunities to students seeking to broaden their education globally.”

During the trip, Ottino visited leaders in Taiwan’s high-tech sector, including many Northwestern alumni in leadership positions. Ottino also gave an invited talk at Asia University, where he was hosted by the university’s president, Jeffrey Tsai (PhD ’86).  The topic was “Creativity and Innovation in Art, Technology, and Science.”

A highlight of the trip was “Innovation at Northwestern,” a presentation and cocktail reception hosted by McCormick and the NU Club of Taiwan on Friday, December 6. Northwestern alumni and friends gathered at the Grand Hyatt Taipei to learn how Northwestern is bridging disciplines to educate creative leaders and to be introduced to the breadth of new initiatives thriving at their alma mater.
