SOLIDWORKS offers a robust suite of tools for engineering design, documentation, simulation, and sustainable design in one easy-to-learn software package.

SolidWorks is available for Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 and is for use by Northwestern researchers and students.

ANSYS

ANSYS is a general purpose finite element program for engineering analysis. It can solve a wide range of structural, electromagnetic and heat transfer problems, computing the values of displacements, forces, stresses, strains, temperatures and magnetic fields. Analysis types available are: static, eigenvalue buckling, mode frequency, harmonic response, linear/nonlinear transient dynamics, heat transfer, magnetics and substructures. Structural and heat transfer analysis may be in one, two or three dimensions.

LabVIEW

LabVIEW is a National Instruments system-design platform and development environment for the “G” visual programming language. Northwestern has negotiated a campus-wide site license for LabVIEW with the guidelines outlined in the link below.
