Research in the department’s three divisions creates natural synergies among faculty members and students. Research in the department’s three divisions creates natural synergies among faculty members and students.

Research

Research in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science spans a wide range of disciplines that are essential to the growing field of information technology. Our faculty members and students have developed new ideas to achieve results in all aspects of electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science.

Because our department is home to research in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science, as well as different subareas in each of those fields, natural synergies occur between and among faculty members and students.

Areas of Research

Our faculty members are organized into three academic divisions, and several faculty members have secondary affiliations:

Research Interest Groups

The six research interest groups in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science support our graduate and undergraduate programs.

Undergraduate Research

Research experience is an integral part of advanced undergraduate education, especially for students planning to enter graduate school.

Groups & Labs

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is home to more than 20 groups and labs, supporting the research of our faculty members and students.

research Centers

Our award-winning faculty members oversee and participate in several research centers at Northwestern.

Tech Reports

Tech Reports is a venue for faculty members and students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to publish their scholarly work. Tech Reports also publishes reports by The Institute for Learning Sciences.
