COMP_SCI 496: Computational Auditory Scene Analysis

Prerequisites

Admission is by permission only. The necessary background is provided by COMP_SCI 352 (machine perception of music and audio) and COMP_SCI 349 (machine learning). Students who have taken both courses or have equivalent knowledge are encouraged to contact the instructor for permission to enroll.

Description

This is an advanced research course is focused on Computer Audition, the auditory analog to Computer Vision.  Students are expected to read current research papers in Computer Audition and to work  on projects in the area. 

Example projects in the area include: 

  * Automatic transcription of audio recordings to sheet music 

  * Software that separates sound recordings into individual sound sources 

  * Speech generation from text

COURSE GOALS: To achieve a working knowledge of the state-of-the-art in cutting edge auditory scene analysis.
