Environmental Engineering Senior Received Alumnae of Northwestern University Graduate Fellowship

Kimberly Huynh EE’14 was awarded the 2014-15 Graduate Fellowship by the Alumnae of Northwestern University.  The $20,000 Fellowship will be used towards Kimberly’s tuition for her MS program in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern.  Kimberly has garnered a number of recognitions this year.  They include: Top Poster Presentation, Top Presenter from Math, Computer Sciences, Engineering, and Physics and Top Presenter from Northwestern University at the 2014 Chicago Area Undergraduate Symposium; second place in the Student and Young Professional poster competition at the WATERCON 2014 organized by the Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association and the Illinois Water Environmental Association.

Kimberly is studying the visualization of dissolved oxygen concentrations on submerged surfaces using oxygen-sensitive paints, with the objective of understanding oxygen distributions in sediment beds.  Kimberly is a senior in CEE, and, through McCormick’s B.S./M.S. program, will complete her B.S. in Environmental Engineering in June 2014, and her M.S. in Mechanical Engineering  in December 2014.   Kimberly has also conducted microbiology research at Northwestern and the University of California, Berkeley, and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental fluid mechanics and hydrology.

The Alumnae of Northwestern University offers this Fellowship to full-time graduate students who show promise of achieving distinction in their chosen field and who will bring credit to the University.  Criteria for selection include quality of scholarship, leadership, community service, professional experience, and financial need. Special consideration will be given to students who choose a program in pursuit of a career that serves the public good.  In order to be eligible for this Fellowship, Northwestern alumni, preferably females, who return to the University to pursue a terminal Master's degree in any field of study.  Applications may be newly admitted or currently enrolled as full-time students in a terminal Master’s Degree Program at Northwestern as of Fall, 2014.
