NU ASCE and Faculty Advisor Recognized by National ASCE

Northwestern University ASCE Student Chapter has been awarded a 2013 Letter of Significant Improvement by ASCE National.  The NU ASCE was recognized for its considerable advancement in its activities from the previous year.

In the spring of 2010, the students started to revive the Chapter with a handful of members.  They also re-engaged in the Great Lakes Region ASCE steel bridge competition.  This past year, the Chapter had nearly 60 members, participated in both the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions for the first time in many years.  The steel bridge team was invited to participate in the National Student Bridge Competition Conference in May 2012.  Currently, the students are busy preparing for the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions for the second year in a row.

NU ASCE faculty advisor Professor Karen Chou was also recognized by ASCE National with the Certificate of Commendation for her exceptional service as faculty advisor based on the students' recommendation.  This is the second year in a row that Professor Chou received this recognition.  She has received the Certificate of Commendation when serving as faculty advisor of the University of Tennessee ASCE Student Chapter in 1999.  Related articles Civil Engineer of the Year.
