PhD Degree Applicants

All PhD students are fully funded throughout the duration of their studies by a combination of internal and external fellowships, grants, and teaching and research assistantships.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a substantial number of academic quarters of fellowship and assistantship support for outstanding PhD degree applicants.

Your application is automatically considered with submission. We also encourage students to apply for external scholarships.

MS Degree Applicants

The Office of Student Financial Services assists students with loan processes and provides sound debt management services.

MS Degree Applicants – Tuition:

Tuition Rate 2017-2018:

  • Full time tuition: $ 17,413 per quarter
  • Single Course tuition: $ 6,195

Health Insurance

Health Insurance is a requirement for all degree-seeking students at Northwestern University, which will cost each student an additional $3,856 for coverage from September 1, 2017-August 31, 2018. Please note that you can fulfill the insurance requirement by:

  • confirming your NU-SHIP enrollment, or

The Northwestern Student Health Insurance Office is available to assist students in making appropriate insurance selections for their health care needs. Please contact them directly with health insurance questions.
