To prepare our students for industrial research, we place great emphasis on remaining up-to-date on the latest procedures and equipment used in the bioprocessing, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology settings. Merck Sharp & Dohme, Corp. donated a preparative scale AKTA Explorer chromatography system with fraction collector for use in the MBP teaching laboratory. Merck, an innovative, global healthcare leader is committed to improving health and well-being around the world through products in the heart and respiratory health, infectious diseases, sun care, and women's health categories.
Sigma-Aldrich provided the MBP with supplies for the bioprocess engineering laboratory. As a leading Life Science and High Technology company, Sigma-Aldrich’s biochemical and organic chemical products and kits are used widely in scientific research, including biotechnology.
Diosynth Biotechnology Schering-Plough, donated three NAPCO 6000 CO2 incubators for use in the Master of Biotechnology Program teaching lab. Diosynth is a global leader in technology-driven process development and cGMP manufacturing of recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies and peptides. The incubators will be used in MBP bioprocess engineering and molecular biotechnology laboratory courses in which students are taught bacterial and mammalian cell culture.
PDL BioPharma provided Northwestern University’s Master of Biotechnology Program (MBP) with a generous financial contribution. PDL is a leader in the discovery, development, and marketing of innovative therapies for serious or life-threatening illnesses with a portfolio of acute care hospital products. The gift from PDL will support the development of MBP laboratory courses enabling students to gain hands-on experience with the latest procedures for upstream and downstream protein production.
Pfizer also made a significant financial contribution of an unrestricted grant to equip the MBP with a state of the art protein purification laboratory and to sponsor annual academic performance awards for MBP students. It is estimated that on any given day, 40 million people around the world are treated with a Pfizer medicine.
