Electives add flexibility to the MBP curriculum and serve a variety of purposes. The student may choose an elective to:

  • Better understand his or her research project
  • Create a concentration in a selected area
  • Learn a different mindset (e.g., business)
  • Challenge themself to explore a new area of interest
  • Satisfy a certificate or minor requirement (or a future admission requirement of a PhD, MD, etc. program)

In order to count towards MBP graduation requirements, an elective has to be broadly related to the science, engineering, or business of biotechnology. However, an even wider variety of electives is available as an overload (at no additional cost).
