Graduate Students Win Research Poster Award at the Association for Women in Mathematics Workshop

At the Joint Mathematics Meetings, which were held January 4-7, 2017, graduate students Sara Clifton and Kaitlin Hill jointly won "Most Outstanding Graduate Student Research Poster," along with another graduate student. Their posters were a part of the Association for Women in Mathematics Workshop Poster Competition. Clifton's poster presented a mathematical model for the evolution of extravagent animal ornamentation. The associated paper, coauthored by Danny Abrams and Rosemary Braun, can be found at the Proceedings of the Royal Society BThe poster Hill presented discussed work analyzing dynamical systems with applications to Arctic energy balance. Many of the results presented may be found in an article, coauthored by Mary Silber and Dorian Abbot, in the SIAM Journal on Applied Dynamical Systems.
